A heart stopping romance that will literally leave you breathless! From the very first chapter, I knew I was in for something special with Dark Succession formally published as The Marriage Contract. This audiobook completely swept me off my feet and reminded me why I fell in love with romance in the first place. Katee Robert has crafted a story that masterfully weaves together passion, suspense, and raw emotion in a way that kept me listening late into the night.

At its heart, this is Callista and Teague’s story—a love that blooms in the most unexpected circumstances. Their chemistry is absolutely electric from their first meeting, crackling with tension and unspoken desire. What struck me most was how Robert developed their relationship with such authenticity. Despite the arranged marriage premise, their connection feels genuine and earned. Callista’s strength in the face of unimaginable grief is beautifully portrayed, and watching Teague slowly break down her walls while revealing his own vulnerabilities was pure magic.

The way these two characters heal each other is breathtaking. Callista, drowning in loss and thrust into a world she never chose, finds unexpected solace in Teague’s steady presence. And Teague—oh, Teague—he’s the perfect blend of protective alpha and tender heart. Their intimate moments are scorching hot but never lose the emotional depth that makes you truly invest in their happiness.

Robert doesn’t shy away from the darker elements of the story. The grief that permeates Callista’s journey feels raw and real, never diminished or glossed over for the sake of romance. The grief that Teague feels during the story. The suspense threading through their story adds genuine stakes that had my heart racing during several scenes. Yet somehow, the author balances these heavier themes perfectly with moments of pure romantic bliss that made me sigh with contentment. This is one of those books where he would burn the world for her!

The audiobook performance brought these characters to life in the most incredible way. Every stolen glance, every whispered confession, every moment of passion was delivered with such emotion that I felt like I was right there with Callista and Teague as their love story unfolded.

This book reminded me why I’m such a sucker for a good marriage of convenience story—when it’s done right, like it is here, there’s nothing more satisfying than watching two people find their forever person in the most unexpected way.

Dark Succession is an absolute must-listen for anyone who loves romance with depth, heat, and heart. Katee Robert has created something truly special here, and I’ll be thinking about Callista and Teague’s love story for a long time to come. Bonus this is part of a series, but each book can be read as a stand alone.
