Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 stars.

Stacy Willingham delivers a masterfully crafted psychological thriller that had me completely absorbed from start to finish. Not as marvelous as the first Flicker in the Dark, BUT another absolutely thrilling book from the first moment to the 10th hour. The ending was WILD. Did not see the story going that way!
Plot and Suspense
The story follows Isabelle Drake, a mother consumed by the unsolved disappearance of her infant son Mason one year ago. What sets this thriller apart is Willingham’s expertly layered storytelling – just when you think you’ve figured out the mystery, she pulls the rug out from under you with another shocking revelation. The pacing is relentless, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to pause the audiobook.
The author weaves multiple timelines seamlessly, creating an intricate web of secrets that slowly unravels. The suspense builds methodically through unreliable narration and carefully planted red herrings that keep readers second-guessing every character’s motives.
Character Development
Isabelle is a complex, flawed protagonist whose desperation feels authentic and raw. Her insomnia-induced unreliability adds another layer of tension – we’re never quite sure what’s real and what’s her sleep-deprived imagination. The supporting cast, including her husband Ben and the mysterious podcaster Waylon, are equally well-developed with hidden depths that emerge throughout the story.
Audiobook Performance
The narration brings this psychological suspense to life brilliantly. The narrator captures Isabelle’s fragile mental state perfectly, LIKE WOW! adding emotional weight to an already compelling story. The voice acting enhanced the atmospheric tension that makes this such an engaging listen.
Strengths
- Unpredictable plot twists that genuinely surprised me
- Atmospheric writing that creates genuine unease
- Complex family dynamics explored with nuance
- Multiple POV storytelling that adds depth
- Southern Gothic elements that enhance the mystery
- Domestic thriller aspects that feel authentic
Bottom Line
All the Dangerous Things is a standout novel that delivers everything you want in a psychological thriller – unreliable narrators, dark family secrets, and twists that will leave you reeling. Fans of Gillian Flynn, Ruth Ware, and domestic suspense will find plenty to love here. This audiobook kept me up way past my bedtime (ironically fitting for a story about insomnia), and I’m already eager to read Stacy Willingham’s next release.
